About the Artwork:
Frida in Detroit is a vibrant tribute that blends the iconic spirit of Frida Kahlo with the cultural identity of Detroit. Surrounded by bold floral patterns, symbolic birds, and geometric motifs, the portrait places Frida within a colorful decorative frame of storytelling elements while the Detroit skyline rises behind her.
The artwork celebrates resilience, creativity, and individuality—qualities shared by both Frida Kahlo and the city of Detroit. Known for transforming pain and personal struggle into powerful art, Frida represents strength through expression. By placing her within Detroit’s landscape, the piece draws a connection between artistic perseverance and the city’s history of reinvention, culture, and grit.
The intricate hand-drawn details and vivid palette reflect folk-art influences while maintaining a contemporary pop-art energy. Finished with an epoxy coating and presented in a custom red ornate frame, the piece becomes both a portrait and a cultural homage.
Edition: One-of-one original artwork.
